Do you need rental-car insurance?

It is summer time! It is vacation time! Are you driving for your vacation? If you’re renting a vehicle this summer, take note:

* Don’t pay unnecessarily.
The coverage on your Farmers Auto policy generally applies to your rental vehicle, subject to your deductibles. There are exceptions though, so check with me before you reach the rental counter. If you have limited coverage and have an accident in your rental car, you can expect to pay certain costs out of pocket, especially if you’re struck by an uninsured motorist.

*Be aware of new developments.
Some rental companies are now making their customers responsible for damage from acts of nature, such as floods or hurricanes. (Previously, rental companies were responsible for such damage.) Depending on where you plan to rent a vehicle, check the company’s rental conditions — and check with me to see if your Auto policy provides coverage.
