What is Homeowner’s Insurance?
Disasters come in many forms. In the Midwest, they come in the form of tornadoes and snowstorms. On the West Coast, they arrive in the form of earthquakes and on theEast Coast in form of Hurricanes. As a matter of fact, a disaster can take any shape or form, it can be a lightning strike or frozen pipes in winter.
Homeowners insurance provides financial protection and peace against most disasters. A typical homeowners policy is a package policy that insures the home itself, the things and valuables you keep in it. The policy covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. This includes damage caused by your household pets.
Although, most disasters are covered by a standard homeowners policy, there are some exceptions. Floods and Earthquakes may not be covered by standard homeowners insurance. This makes perfect sense as there is no point selling Flood insurance, where historically there is no incidence of flooding. Alternatively if you are in a flood-prone or earthquake-prone zone, you can buy a separate policy.
Just a quick note here: Poor maintenance is not covered under standard homeowner policy or any other policy.
